Our History

2022-2023

The beginning of the season was rough, due to little consideration for software in our design process, which caused problems early on. Thankfully, our team had much experience in judging, which helped us make it to worlds, as well as being a finalist for the design award in our division. Being at worlds was an incredible experience, with lots of excitement and fun to be had by the entire team. We also did a lot of outreach in multiple areas, even hosting a STEM event known as Momentum.

2021-2022

With an almost entirely rookie team and the pandemic's aftermath, the 2021 season was difficult but we also made big changes for the team as a whole. Meeting virtually was utilized heavily after the pandemic. Our end of year Momentum Career Showcase event was even held virtually, making STEM expertise accessible to more people. We continued to build our relationships with these industry professionals which influenced our future outreach opportunities. We also brought back some of our team traditions to boost team morale and made big strides to increase commitment to robotics. Despite the challenges we faced, we were able to influence and help many both in and outside of the STEM community while redefining what it means for us to be a successful team.

2020-2021

With an almost entirely rookie team and an emerging pandemic, the 2020 season was extremely difficult. Meeting times and spaces were restricted which made training our new team more challenging. Yet, we persevered and managed to reach many with FIRST values. The Argentinian camp we hosted was entirely in Spanish and available on our Youtube channel, making STEM resources and coding classes more accessible to those who do not speak English. We continued our relationship with South Africa and further helped the Greater Tzaneen Community FTC teams. We also continued our advocacy for STEM locally, speaking with legislature in hopes to improve STEM funding. Despite the many challenges of the pandemic, we were able to influence and help many.

2019-2020

A team of all veteran members, QuadX had a strong base for the 2019 - 2020 season. Wanting to push the boundaries of what a small group of individuals could achieve, we took on our biggest endeavor yet and travelled to Tzaneen, South Africa to set up 2 FTC teams. Coming so close to our goal of winning Inspire at Worlds last year we didn't want to leave anything on the table. Unfortunately, after an already successful season winning the Inspire awards at our League Championship and Regional Championship our season was cut short due to COVID-19.

With only one team member graduating from the year previous, QuadX had a strong base for the 2018 - 2019 season. We used our relationships built from the year before to design a competitive robot and even stronger team bond, culminating at the World Championships in Houston. Returning to the stage after a year absence, we were assured we had learned from our experiences bringing home the Inspire Finalist Award.

2013-2014

While the team QuadX had been in existence for a year already, it was essentially our rookie year, since everyone was new to the team- we had 5 rookies, and nobody had ever been a member of the Hardware team. Through hard work, creativity, and sheer will, however, we made it to the World Championship! We had never expected to have one of the best-performing robots in the world at the beginning the year, and making it to the finals at Worlds was a fantastic conclusion to our first year together.
