What is FIRST?

For The Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology

FIRST is an acronym for "For The Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology". They are an international youth organization that run and administer the First Tech Challenge, First LEGO League Discover, FIRST Lego League Explore, First LEGO League Challenge and First Robotics Challenge robotics challenges. FIRST hosts these to promote and spread the idea of STEM (STEAM) by combining the excitement of sports and rigors of science and technology.

FIRST Lego League 


FLL stands for FIRST Lego League. It is a program  run by FIRST that helps introduce the values of STE(A)M to younger audiences (from K to 8) with the help of Lego products. The usage of them creates a fun game for the participants and supports learning about science and technology through the game itself and other aspects of the organization.

FIRST Tech Challenge 


FTC stands for FIRST Tech Challenge. FTC allows students from grades 7-12 to participate in a robot competion that lasts for most of the school year. Students will learn skills of science and technology, while also developing important teamworking skills

FIRST Robotics Competition

FRC stands for FIRST Robotics Competition. FRC allows high school students to participate in a robot competition that lasts for about half of the school year. Students will learn skills of science and technology, while also developing important teamworking skills.
